Forgetting the Mouth

Evolution is such a fascinating subject: do we actually acquire some “thing” as we grow in consciousness or is it that we lessen our ignorance, to reveal a latent potential that is beyond measure – a potential that can’t be grown or improved upon, because it is already perfect?

If we choose door #1 (there’s something we must get), it implies that we are  missing something, a feeling amplified by society’s marketing and education. The message is clear: not only do we need this new car, for example, but we will be incomplete without it! If we choose to go through door #2 (we already are, have and do what LOVE wills), then how will our economy and the whole of the cast system of our modern society survive? No, no, no; that’s too dangerous, too radical a perspective! We must preserve scarcity at all cost, and keep on agreeing to a giant conspiracy of ignorance that has us forget that we are not only good enough, but also not “God” enough!

It may be reassuring to know that the slogan (“not good enough”) is not new, although it seems to bear more and more weight with the advances of technology, the urgency of a planet direly tried, and the increasing gap between the haves and the have-nots. Since the beginning of time – which is really the beginning of mind, we’ve become insane, “doing the same thing again and again, expecting different results.” It is as if we can’t learn, and can’t remember. The lack of presence has become so rampant that we even added to our collective unconscious by attaching to a brand-new disease termed as Alzheimer. More than cancer or heart disease, this contraction has to be the ultimate powerlessness, as it hits on the fear of losing control of our mind and our life.

So what’s the solution, and is there even one? As healers, the New Essenes like to start with the basics, such as “the Truth shall set you free!” We found that when we do what we know we are to do, that is, when we are congruent and true to the Self, the patterns of disgrace leave us on their own accord. This is a sure way to restore the Sense of Enough that we lost somewhere on the way; from feeling “enough,” it is likely that physical pain, but also and foremost mental pain – the exile, the sorrow, the shame, the despair, the depression, the dementia – will be embraced and supported by the light of the soul.

Speaking of being radical and basic, the Greek word for “truth” is Alethia. Its opposite being Lethe, for “concealment, forgetfulness.” Lethe is also one of the five infernal rivers. Legend has it that those who drank from it were unable to remember who they were, and could only go into defilement. Since drinking is done by way of the mouth, it is likely that Greek mythology is alluding to the mouth chakra, whose presence on the Tree of Life has been direly “forgotten!” That oblivion may just be what makes us insane: indeed, mouth eats, speaks and kisses, ruling over health, wealth and relationships: forgetting it impacts both the individual and the collective!
