… Gimme one order of totality, please.
Greetings! We trust this message finds you well today.
I find myself, yet again, standing at the edge of an event horizon…of sorts. I have come to notice that life experiences like these have a tendency to really activate both my physical and psychic senses. License plates speak to me, raccoons and hawks give me advice, I have serendipitous and synchronistic conversations with all sorts of people abound, and so on. Circumstantially, on the level of the physical, I happen to be walking through several profound transformations, concurrently; family, home, relationship and career. If it were not for my learning from similar experiences in the past, going through comparable “crucibles“, I would be paralyzed with fear.
Dictionary.com defines the word crucible (n) as follows:
- a vessel in which substances are heated to high temperatures
- the hearth at the bottom of a metallurgical furnace in which the metal collects
- a severe trial or test
In my sales career, the saying “in the crucible” is a term used to describe the phase in a complex selling process that is generally close to the completion of a big, strategic deal when the tide could literally go either way (win or lose). The client could say yes and move toward contract negotiations, and they could just as easily say no and go to competition or implement another solution. I have learned from experience to stay conscious, read the signs, to be patient and gently persistent, as, while in the crucible, even a small mistake can kill the deal (e.g.; pushing too hard, ignoring the environment, etc.). For good and bad, I have witnessed both sides of this phenomenon many times.
At the moment, knowing that my commitment is to totality, which is equivalent to unconditional love, and nothing less, I am increasingly able to walk through situations like these with peace, grace and ease. And yet, it does require motion. So, what’s it going to be? As my fortune cookie fortune said tonight “If you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you’ve always gotten“. Interesting!
If you find yourself struggling or seeking the courage to shift something important in your life, we invite you to ponder these questions:
- Would I like to experience clarity and effectiveness with the decisions that matter most to me?
- Would I like to do improve my ability to navigate when I am in the “crucible”?
- How might a commitment to totality shift my experience of life?
